Purchased headpins are an excellent time saver when you are facing a deadline. The only drawback is you are confined by the length. Next time you are designing a piece, consider making some geometric headpins. They are simple in design and easy to make with very little materials, scrap pieces of wire and sheet are perfect.

Instructions
Step 1
Using 400 grit sandpaper, clean then flush cut various lengths of copper wire to your specifications. Using the flat file from the metal file set, smooth the cut ends. Using the flat face of the chasing hammer, slightly flatten one end of each wire on the steel bench.

Step 2
Using the Metal Punch Kit fitted with the 9/32” punch and die, punch a few disks from the 24 gauge sheet.

Step 3
Clean the copper sheet using 400 grit sandpaper. Using the permanent marker and ruler, trace 3/8” triangles on the sheet.

Step 4
Cut out the triangles with the metal shears and slightly round the edges with a flat metal file.

Step 5
Lay the prepared shapes on the soldering brick. Align the wires in the center on the shapes. Using the butane torch and copper solder, solder the wires to the shapes.

Step 6
Let them cool, pickle, remove and wash with soap and water. Brass brush if desired.
