Instructions
Step 1
Cut and anneal two three-inch pieces of flat wire. I find the wire to be quite strong and the annealing is a big help.

Step 2
Pickle the wires to remove the fire scale. (This may take longer than expected). Then rinse and dry the wires.

Step 3
Divide each piece into fourths and mark them on the right side of the wires. I found that even my fine tip markers made to wide a mark; therefore, I used a Micron pen. I marked the three-inch pieces at ¾, 1 ½, and 2 ¼ inches.

Step 4
Bend each wire at a right angle on the middle mark over the edge of the bench block. Line up the piece straight across the bottom of the bench block so that both the line and the bend are straight. Gently hammer the bends.

Step 5
Position the larger cylinder of the medium bale making pliers on the middle side of each remaining mark. Bend the pieces toward the inside.

Bend each end of the pieces over the larger part of the same pliers. Bend one end up and the other down.

Push the two sides together allowing the end going up to sit atop the other. You may need to use the flat pliers to straighten the pieces.

Step 8
Punch a hole in the center of both pieces. I made a dent with the hole punch and then opened the pieces to make the holes through the dents.

Step 9
Put a head pin through the holes from the bottom up. Add a small bead and make a wrapped loop. Attach the ear wires. Patina the earrings if you want.
