Can you heat porcelain? I have some porcelain cameos that I want to fire in my kiln, about 1400 F. Some of them have images like this one. Thanks.

Hey Veronica, that's a great question! Since I don't personally use a kiln, I checked with some jewelry-making friends who do. They said it really depends on whether the porcelain painting has a coating like lacquer or sealant. If it does, heating can cause issues some coatings might melt or even catch fire.
Most painted porcelain itself can usually handle some heat, but colors might darken or burn in the process. On the other hand, finished, glazed pottery is generally safe to incorporate with materials like PMC or Art Clay and can be heated without problems.
If you're planning to experiment, maybe try heating a small test piece first to see how it reacts, just to be safe! What kind of project are you thinking about?
