Goldstone is not 'stone', but rather glass, with a history that goes back centuries. Goldstone is believed to have originated in the 17th century, created by monks who were experimenting with alchemy and, by accident, came up with this beautiful mixture of gold flecks in glass. In this blue version, cobalt and manganese are used in the blue glass matrix instead of copper, giving the resulting crystals a more silvery appearance. We've explained more about the history of this striking gem in a post, "Gem Profile: Goldstone," on Wire-Sculpture's jewelry-making blog.
